Tower Crane Jib Collapse in London

Tower Crane Jib Collapse - London

Earlier today, a luffing tower crane's jib collapsed at a construction site in West London, near Central Middlesex Hospital in Park Royal, Acton. The crane, part of Falcon Crane's fleet, was working on a Durkan construction project when the jib buckled and twisted around the tower. The incident occurred around 4:00 AM, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. Police confirmed that no one was on-site at the time, and the night had been calm.

It's unclear if prior damage from the extreme winds earlier this month contributed to the collapse, or if a collision with another crane may have been a factor.

Falcon Crane issued a brief statement: “We received reports that the jib of one of our luffing jib tower cranes collapsed overnight at a site in Acton.
The crane was not in operation, and no injuries or structural damage to surrounding property have been reported.
We will be conducting a thorough investigation to determine the immediate and underlying causes of the collapse.”

The site, part of a development for 158 apartments on the grounds of the old hospital, has been under construction since 2022
